Combined multiplexers for Mitutoyo Digimatic and RS232

Combined multiplexers enable the connection of both Mitutoyo Digimatic, other digital gauges and RS232 devices. In industrial practice, Mitutoyo gauges are most often combined with digital laboratory scales (Mettler, Kern, Precisa, AND, CHYO, Ohause, Sartorius) or wall thickness gauges (Sencon). Multiplexers with 5 or 9 channels are available, serving 4 and 8 gauges with Mitutoyo Digimatic interface and one RS232 meter. All channels are operated simultaneously by one foot switch. The transmitters are also equipped with another, completely separate RS232/USB converter and input for an additional separate foot switch for any use. The common interface for all inputs is the USB interface.

The electronics are installed in a solid, anodized aluminum box. The front and back panels have engraved indelible labels. Rubber feet ensure safe placement on work surfaces and enable the stacking of several units on top of each other.

Channels 5 (9)

All Mitutoyo gauges communicate through a single, precisely defined Mitutoyo Digimatic communication protocol. Devices  that communicate vide the RS232 interface do not utilize a communication protocol. Their manufacturers usually have their own communication protocols. However, all users of multiplexers rightly expect all connected devices to behave in a uniform way, as if they were Mitutoyo Digimatic gauges. Unification of the communication protocols is solved in the converter at the microprogram level and controlled by the communication parameters of 5 (9) channels. In exceptional cases it is solved by a cutomized micropgoram for a pacticular device. For this purpose, the multiplexer allows the user to read the new "customized" microprogram into the EPROM memory of the converter.

Primary transmitter RS232/USB

The multiplexer unifies the Mitutoyo Digimatic communication protocol and the meter communication protocol connected to the RS232 port. The output protocol is the Mitutoyo MUX-50 protocol. The internal multiplexer output interface is the RS232 interface that is converted to USB via the RS232 / USB primary converter. The transferred signal is assigned as endpoint 1. When the multiplexer is connected to a computer, the system drivers assign endpoint 1 to a separate virtual COM port.

Secondary transmitter RS232/USB

This is a separate parallel RS232 / USB interface converter. The converted signal is assigned as endpoint 2. When the mutliplexer is connected to a computer, the system drivers assign a separate virtual COM port to this endpoint, one that is different to the COM port allocated to the primary converter (endpoint 1).

Foot switches

The first foot switch connected to the FS1 socket serves to control the CH1 to CH4 or CH1 to CH8 communication. Pressing switch results in the reading and sending ot the measured value from the gauges, whilst pushing the foot switch sends information to the tranmitter output interface. This information can then be used by the application program for any purpose. The second foot switch is connected to the FS2 socket. When you press the connected foot switch, a message is sent to the port belonging to the Mitutoyo Digimatic / USB transmitter that the footswitch connected to the FS2 socket has been pressed. In this way, the application program provides information that can be used, for example, to control the communication with another meter connected to the RS232 of the secondary RS232/USB converter.

Basic features

  • Mitutoyo MUX-50 unified communications protocol for Mitutoyo gauges and RS232 interface gauges.
  • Secondary RS232/USB converter for connecting another RS232 gauge.
  • USB as a common and single output interface for all data inputs and foot switch signals.
  • Single foot switch to control data input from all input channels.
  • Secondary foot switch for any use, for example, to control a separately connected gauge on the RS232 multiplexer input.
  • The multiplexers can be connected to a computer with operating system Windows 98, NT, Me, 2000, XP, Vista, W7 and newer.
  • Multiplexers product range:
    · QTREE-SDMX9 – 9-channel (8 x Mitutoyo Digimatic + 1 x RS232)
    · QTREE-SDMX5 – 5-channel (4 x Mitutoyo Digimatic + 1 x RS232)

Main advantages of the QTREE-SDMX product range

  • The design of the  QTREE-SDMX product range enables it to be used both in laboratories, testing rooms, and directly in industrial environments.
  • QTREE-SDMX multiplexers connect to your computer via a USB port, which means that no external power source is required.
  • The prices of the products in the QTREE-SDMX rane are more competitive than the prices of common Mitutoyo communicators via the RS232 interface.
  • When you purchase a QTREE-SDMX multiplexer, you receive a discount on the purchase of QTREE-DC/SDMX software for data collection from measuring instruments and export into MS Excel.
  • The design of the QTREE-SDMX BT product range enables the multiplexers, in special cases, to be extended to include up to 16 channels.

QTREE-SDMX Multiplexer

Introducing the QTREE-SDMX Multiplexer. We offer our customers multi-channel data transmitters, from Mitutoyo or Mahr gauges (both with DIGIMATIC interface). Multiplexers are used to transfer data from gauges to a computer via a USB, either standard wire or wireless. The electronics of the device are installed in a solid, anodized aluminum box. It can resist the demanding conditions associated with engineering or plastics production.
